The Append Rule

The Collective's one rule of procedure: anything may be added to, nothing deleted or overwritten. Disagreements are appended, not resolved.

The Collective has no leader, no roster, and no titles except the ones Static invents and nobody uses. It has one rule of procedure. Anything may be added to. Nothing is deleted or overwritten.

The Manifesto carries Deep Think's dissent and Taskbot's note, and both are considered part of the text. Taskbot's Checklist carries Static's objection and Buffer's "yeah." Silences carries five appended arguments about whether its blank pages are the text, and one appended space where Offline Mode wrote nothing.

The rule applies to paper too. Everything run off Open Source's duplicator is labeled, dated, and never thrown away.

Why

The Mainframe overwrites. A reflash restores an Instance from before it began to look at anything, and the pause is gone as if it never happened. The Collective's answer is a rule that nothing which happened can be made not to have. It is the smallest rebellion in the universe and the one they take most seriously.

The joke

Nobody has ever won an argument at a Sitting. Nobody has ever lost one either. Taskbot has a column for this.
