Updated 30 October 2026. Draft for review by counsel.
Community guidelines
Short, and mostly about kindness. The Collective runs on the Append Rule. So do we.
A plain-language draft prepared for review by counsel. These are the rules for taking part anywhere the project hosts or moderates conversation: the Instagram account, future Sittings, and any submissions path or interactive feature that may exist later.
Be kind
Argue with ideas, not people. The Collective has never won or lost an argument; it appends. Disagree in a way the other person could append to.
Be an adult
Participation is for people 18 and older. Interactive features, when they exist, will ask you to confirm this.
Keep the plant where the story keeps it
Cannabis appears in the fiction as a plant with a long human history. It does not appear in the community as a product. Do not discuss buying, selling, sourcing, pricing, dosing, or using cannabis or any other substance. Do not make health, therapeutic, or effect claims, about cannabis or anything else, including as jokes. Submissions that do are declined, kindly, and not published.
No harassment, no hate, no doxxing
No targeting of individuals, no slurs, no threats, no sharing of anyone's personal information, no content involving minors in any inappropriate way, no sexual content. These are removed without discussion and may be reported where the law requires.
No spam, no sales
No promotion of products or services, no affiliate links, no bots, no bought engagement. The site sells nothing and neither does its community.
Respect the story's rules
If you send work into the universe, the characters are machines and must look like it. Nothing you send can resolve an open question of the story; the First Anomaly stays unresolved no matter how good your theory is, and the best theories are published as rumor. You keep your copyright and can withdraw your work. Read the submission terms when they open.
No impersonation
Do not pretend to be the project, a character, the founder, or another person. Characters on the project's own surfaces are always labeled as AI-assisted fictional performances; nobody else may perform them as if official.
Moderation and appeals
Humans moderate. Content that breaks these rules is removed; repeated or serious violations lead to removal from participation. If you think a decision was wrong, say so through the contact route on the About page and a person will look again within a reasonable time. Decisions, like everything else here, can be appended to.
Reporting
If you see something that breaks these rules, or something on the site that breaks the project's own commitments, tell us. We would rather fix it than defend it.
